DVD and Blu-ray on One Disc, Oh the Possibilities
In this age of consolidating, condensing, combining and corruption we have more cohesive news to bring to you. A Japanese disc producer company has announced that they will be the first to produce a combination Blu-ray and DVD disc. One disc, so many possibilities.
Two layers: one that the DVD laser can read and one that the Blu-ray laser can read. There's a lot of technical jargon that goes into exactly how this technology works, but we've dumbed it down. The DVD laser is like a boy and likes things to be shallow on the surface. So it goes for that top layer and gives you an OK relationship ... I mean picture ... quality. The Blu-ray laser is like a girl and goes for another, deeper and more meaningful layer. The result is real contrast, deeper color and a more realistic picture. Got it?
For those of you that already have a Blu-ray player, these discs really aren't for you. They're for those select few that haven't answered the siren call of up-to-the-minute consumerism and still actually own a DVD player. These new high-tech discs mean you can still get some of your favorites and watch them on your DVD player until it rusts out completely and then you can buy a Blu-ray player and, voila, you can still watch your favorites on your brand new Blu-ray player. Wow.
So get ready people, on Feb. 18, 2009 an entire season of Code Blue will be available on these special BD/DVD hybrid discs. No you're not mistaken, you've never heard of Code Blue. It's a Japanese TV show. Rumor is that the show is a dud but it was the personal favorite of the CEO of the company making the dual-discs. Go figure.
Hopefully, people won't judge the technology based on the quality of the first sample show and we'll soon have some home-grown American shows available. Until then, save yourself the wait and just get a Blu-ray player now, maybe even for Christmas. For more dual-layer blogs (shallow and deep) check out some of these posts:
