Looking into a Blu-ray Player? Look into an Eye Exam First
I have 20/20 vision. Problem is, one eye has joined a powerful union and is now lording it over me by cutting corners and slacking off on the job, knowing full well that the local Shop Steward has a pretty strong report with the rest of my body. Where exactly am I going with this poor analogy and seemingly pointless anecdote?Well, for starters, studies have shown that the added picture quality and video output from Blu-ray discs are wasted on those with anything but perfect 20/20 vision.
This seems, well, pretty straight forward, seeing as any visual surface, depending on visual impairment severity, is wasted to some degree on those with less-than-perfect vision. Scientists could argue that the major works of F. Scott Fitzgerald are largely lost on the farsighted, or freeway billboards are greatly underappreciated by the nearsighted.
Fortunately, for humanity and hack consumer electronics-based science alike, a 13th century Italian inventor by the name of Salvino DArmante crafted the first pair of wearable spectacles, making it possible for people to enjoy their Blu-ray picture in the 21st Century.
However, as forehead-slappingly obvious the overall remedy to this problem was, it does have a logic that, well, makes sense: improvements in picture and display do not equal improvements in the vision of its viewer, and that without taking the proper steps to correct your impaired vision, high definition image technologies are going to fall by the wayside. For you, at least.
So, bespectacled, Blu-ray owning readers, be sure and keep your glasses on when you watch your enhanced picture. And if you are receiving less-than-Blu-ray quality picture on your compatible TV, you might want to schedule an appointment with the nearest LensCrafters.
